The Blythe Girls series was published by Grosset and Dunlap from 1925 through 1932. Elizabeth M. Duffield Ward wrote the series under the pseudonym of Laura Lee Hope. Ward also wrote volumes 7 through 23 of the Outdoor Girls series.

This series is much darker than most vintage series books. The Blythe Girls are three sisters who live alone in New York City. Money is a primary concern, and the Blythe sisters struggle for quite some time before Margy and Rose obtain jobs and before Helen gains nominal success with her art. The reader comes to expect trouble, strife, and disaster to confront the Blythe girls at every turn. Shortly after the beginning of each book, something terrible happens to either one or more of the sisters or to one of their close acquaintances. Rose faces the loss of her job several times. Helen loses her paintings by destruction or theft more than once. On one especially disastrous day, a plane crashes into the Blythes' apartment, destroying most of their furniture and forcing them to temporarily live elsewhere.

The series also has a recurring villain, Rex Pepper. Rex is the spoiled nephew of Margy's employer, the eccentric Miss Dorcas Pepper. At first, Rex's main vices appear to be his selfishness and arrogance, but in time, it becomes apparent that Rex is a criminal with no compunction. Rex tries repeatedly to steal Miss Pepper's fortune, at one point even trying to have Miss Pepper committed to an insane asylum. Rex often shows up in the most unexpected places and is always involved in an underhanded scheme.

Connie Blair is the central character in a series of 12 mystery novels for adolescent girls written by Betty Cavanna under the pseudonym Betsy Allen. Cavanna wrote volumes 1 through 11. The author of volume 12, The Mystery of the Ruby Queens, was a friend of Betty Cavanna who wrote as "Ann Miller." The series was published by Grosset & Dunlap between 1948 and 1958. Initially published with dust jackets, when the first four titles were republished in the early 1960s the change was made to picture covers. All twelve titles were published by Tempo (a Grosset & Dunlap imprint) as paperbacks in the 1960s with entirely new cover art. In 1978, three titles were republished by Tempo in paperback editions, again with new cover art. Foreign editions are known from Great Britain, Norway and Sweden. In the beginning, teenager Connie Blair models clothes at an exclusive department store in Philadelphia. She then becomes a secretary at an advertising firm, and works her way to a more important position. Her various jobs are the backdrops for the mysteries she encounters and solves.

Christopher Cool
Christopher Cool

Christopher Cool: TEEN Agent was a series of children's novels produced between 1967 and 1969 by the Stratemeyer Syndicate and published by Grosset & Dunlap. While the author is given as Jack Lancer, this is actually a pseudonym for a ghostwriter working for the Syndicate. In a 1989 interview published in Comics Interview #69, Jim Lawrence disclosed that he was the author of the series. Lawrence went on to write the long running newspaper strip adventures of James Bond.
The series was created to capitalize on the marketing potential of the spy genre of the era. Six novels were published. The series pitted Christopher and other agents of TEEN (Top-Secret Educational Espionage Network) against TOAD, an international criminal conspiracy. TEEN agents
Other members of TEEN include Geronimo Johnson, an Apache Indian and Christopher's partner; Spice Carter, a student at Vassar University; Yummi Toyama, a Japanese-American student at Berklee College of Music, and Beauregard Tatum, an African-American student at Harvard.
The novels show the TEEN agents going to various foreign countries. As was typical of the spy genre of the time, they are outfitted with many spy gadgets.
All of the six novels were published in France by Hachette between 1969 and 1973 under the title : Chris Cool.

The Garry Grayson Football series by Elmer A. Dawson was published from 1926 to 1932 by New York publishers Grosset & Dunlap with some volumes reprinted later by Whitman. Walter S. Rogers illustrated the first nine volumes and G. Condon did the final volume.

Football followers all over the country will hail with delight this new and thoroughly up-to-date line of gridiron tales.

Garry Grayson is a football fan, first, last, and all the time. But more than that, he is a wideawake American boy with a "gang" of chums almost as wideawake as himself.

How Garry organized the first football eleven his grammar school had, how he later played on the High School team, and what he did on the Prep School gridiron and elsewhere, is told in a manner to please all readers and especially those interested in watching a rapid forward pass, a plucky tackle, or a hot run for a touchdown.

Good, clean football at its best -- and in addition, rattling stories of mystery and schoolboy rivalries.

Happy Hollisters
Happy Hollisters

The Happy Hollisters is a series of books about a family who loves to solve mysteries. The series was created by the Stratemeyer Syndicate and entirely written by Andrew E. Svenson (1910-1975) under the pseudonym Jerry West. Helen S. Hamilton (1921-2014) illustrated the books.

This series recounts the adventures of a young American middle-class family solving mysteries from their home on Pine Lake in the city of Shoreham (no state is ever provided). The Hollister family includes five children, their parents, a family of cats, a dog and a burro. Pete is the oldest of the Hollister children and is 12 years old. Pam, or Pamela, is 10 years old and very adventurous. Ricky is a red-headed, rambunctious 7-year-old and Holly is a 6-year-old tomboy. The youngest is Sue, age 4.

Their father, Mr. John Hollister, owns a general store named The Trading Post, where he sells hardware, sporting goods, and toys. Mrs. Elaine Hollister tries to help her children solve mysteries and is always ready with handy tips for solving cases.

Joey Brill and Will Wilson appear as rivals of the Hollister family in most books. While not actually villains, they appear as obstacles and annoyances to the Hollisters' mystery-solving efforts in most plots. Usually their disruptive actions are shown to be the result of lack of awareness, apathy, or indifference, rather than malicious motives.

Tom Corbett was the main character in a series of Tom Corbett - Space Cadet stories that were depicted in television, radio, books, comic books, comic strips, and other media in the 1950s.

Joseph Lawrence Greene of Grosset & Dunlap developed Tom Corbett, Space Cadet, inspired by the Robert A. Heinlein novel Space Cadet (1948) but based on his own prior work. Greene had submitted a radio script for "Tom Ranger" and the "Space Cadets" in 1946, but it remained unperformed when Heinlein's novel was published. Greene then reworked his radio script into a script for a daily newspaper adventure strip, which was never produced.

The stories followed the adventures of Corbett, Astro, originally Roger Manning and later T.J. Thistle, cadets at the Space Academy as they train to become members of the Solar Guard. The action takes place at the Academy in classrooms and bunkrooms, aboard their training ship the rocket cruiser Polaris, and on alien worlds, both within the solar system and in orbit around nearby stars.

Tom Corbett first appeared on television. The stories initially closely followed the scripts written for the unpublished newspaper comic strip Tom Ranger, Space Cadet, by Joseph Greene from 1949.

Using the same as the TV series, a radio program ran from January 1, 1952 to June 26, 1952, initially in 15-minute segments three times a week and then as a half-hour show twice a week.

The Tom Corbett - Space Cadet comic strip, drawn in Milton Caniff style by Ray Bailey, ran Sunday and daily in American newspapers, from September 9, 1951 to September 6, 1953. Paul S. Newman scripted through February 8, 1953.
